Changes to your enrollment will likely cause changes to your financial aid.
Students must be enrolled full-time to receive the full award. Being enrolled less than full-time will result in the reduction or removal of your scholarship.

What if I add a class?
Institutional Financial Aid
General Institutional Scholarships
If you add a class, your award amount will not be adjusted to cover the additional costs that will incur as a result from the course addition.
Missions Scholarships
Due to our Missions Scholarships being percentage based, the award amount will increase in order to cover a certain percentage of your tuition and student enrollment fee as long as you are already meeting your scholarship's stated enrollment requirements.
To see what percentage your scholarship covers, check the description of each individual Missions Scholarship. Please make sure to review the enrollment requirements and additional eligibility requirements for each Missions Scholarships.
External Financial Aid
Southeastern follows the policies of external scholarship organizations regarding their awards. You should reach out to the scholarship organization that awarded you to find out if they will award additional funds if you add extra classes.
Federal/State Financial Aid (Undergraduate Students Only):
Federal Pell Grant:
There is no additional award for students enrolled above 12 credit hours.
North Carolina Need Based Scholarship:
For students who enroll in 15+ credit hours, the Need Based Scholarship will be increased by $500.
What if I drop a class before the drop date?
Institutional Financial Aid
Undergraduate Students:
- If you drop a class and you remain in 12+ credit hours, no changes are made.
- If you drop a class and you remain in 9-11 credit hours, your aid will be reduced by 50%.
- If you drop a class and you remain in less than 9 credit hours, the remainder of your financial aid will be removed.
Graduate Students:
- If you drop a class and you remain in 9+ credit hours, no changes are made.
- If you drop a class and you remain in 6-8 credit hours, your aid will be reduced by 50%.
- If you drop a class and you remain in less than 6 credit hours, the remainder of your financial aid will be removed.
External Financial Aid
If you have external aid, then your financial aid will be adjusted based on that organization’s policies.
Some external organizations like Keesee, our office is very familiar with their policies and has consistent contact with them. Other external organizations will require reaching out to them directly.
Federal/State Financial Aid (Undergraduate Students Only)
Federal Pell Grant:
Your Pell Grant award is based on your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and your enrollment. In general, a student's full-time award for a semester is reduced as their enrollment decreases.
- If you drop a class and you remain in 12+ credit hours, no changes are made .
- If you drop a class and you remain in 9-11 credit hours, you will receive 75% of your full-time award.
- If you drop a class and you remain in 6-8 credit hours, you will receive 50% of your full-time award.
- If you drop a class and you remain in 1-5 credit hours, you will receive 25% of your full-time award.
In some cases, students with higher EFCs may not receive an award while enrolled in 1-5 credit hours. Please contact our office if you would like to know how your award will be impacted if you choose to drop a class.
North Carolina Need Based Scholarship:
- If you drop a class and you remain in 12+ credit hours, no changes are made.
- If you drop a class and you remain in 9-11 credit hours, your NC Need Based Scholarship will be reduced by 50%.
- If you drop a class and you remain in less than 9 credit hours, the remainder of your NC Need Based Scholarship will be removed.
What happens if I withdraw from a class after the drop date?
Institutional Financial Aid
If you have institutional aid, then your financial aid will be adjusted based on the Eligibility Standards.
Undergraduate Students:
Undergraduate students who withdraw from courses after the drop-date and fall below full-time status will have their institutional financial aid reduced by 25% for each course they withdraw from.
Graduate Students:
Graduate students who withdraw from courses after the drop-date and fall below full-time status will have their institutional financial aid reduced by 33% for each course they withdraw from.

External Financial Aid
If you have external aid, then your financial aid will be adjusted based on that organization’s policies.

Federal/State Financial Aid
If you have federal/state aid, then your financial aid will be adjusted according to the federal/state policies.
After a certain percentage of the semester has been completed, students’ financial aid will not be removed for either of these grants, but you will still need to check with the State/Federal Financial Aid Coordinator to make sure that the appropriate policies are followed.

What if I withdraw from all my classes?
If you withdraw to ZERO credit hours, then you are not eligible to receive institutional financial aid, your federal aid will be evaluated with an R2T4 form, and many external organizations will ask that your scholarships be refunded.
