The First-Time hybrid Scholarship is part of a partnership between our office and the Distance Learning office. The goal of this scholarship is to offset the cost of travelling to campus for the student's first hybrid course. This is a relatively new scholarship and is still experiencing changes from semester to semester.
The current amount set aside for Distance Learning is $20,000 per academic year. This is typically split evenly between the Fall and Spring semesters, though Distance Learning has the option to divide that $20,000 however they see fit. The application will be open for the Fall and Spring terms, though Distance Learning could request a student be awarded for a J-Term or Summer course.
Eligibility Requirements
- Students must be enrolled in a hybrid course
- First priority is given to any student who is enrolled in their first hybrid class
- If there are still funds available after all true "first-time" hybrid students have been awarded, other student who have taken a hybrid before (but have not received this scholarship in the past) may be considered for an award
- Students must have a 2.0 minimum cumulative GPA
Application Process
- Our office has created and manages the application for this scholarship. The form is called the "First-Time Hybrid Scholarship Application"
- Distance Learning takes care of advertising this scholarship to eligible students
- The application will open approximately 2 months before the first day of class and will remain open through the last day to add classes (this timeframe is open to reassessment)
- Be sure to send Distance Learning the link to the form for each semester so they can have it on hand
Awarding Process
- Awarding begins the day after the last day to add classes
- The Institutional Financial Aid Coordinator will go through the list off applicants and award those who are eligible, starting with students who are truly enrolled in their first hybrid here at Southeastern
- Awards are to be offered on a first-come-first-served basis
- If there are additional funds after all first-time hybrid students have been awarded, student who have taken a hybrid before but never received the scholarship may be awarded.
- Distance Learning has the option to let us know of any students they want to ensure receive the award
- Standard pool of funds available is $10,000 per semester, and students are awarded $250 each
Adding and Notifying
- Awarded students will need to be notified after awarding is completed
- Awards will need to be added to PFaids and AA'd
- Both of these should be completed before our office begins PDAWCON
Withdrawals and Missing Hybrid Meeting
- Students who withdraw from their hybrid course or miss their hybrid class meeting will be allowed to keep their award, but will not be able to receive the First-Time Hybrid Scholarship for any future semesters.
